Photo Manipulation and Ethics

1.
A. Cloning people in portraits is said to be an offense in the U.S. Daily Newspapers. While in the Middle East, image manipulation has precedents. Therefore, photographers that has changed up the original photos have caused their jobs. Even when loosing their credibility, digital manipulation isn't limited to the Middle East.

B. On those type of photos, its unethical because it's taking out the people or changing up whats happening, making the story look like a whole new thing.

2.
                                                      A.
This was very unethical because they had put someones head in another's body.

                                       B.
This was the least unethical because it was only a minor part that was changed, and it's barely noticeable. Also it didn't change the concept of the story it's showing us.

National Geographic Warm-Up

1.

2. This was my favorite photo because i loved how its very clear, focused and zoomed in. The edges are just softened up to make the inner parts more defined. I especially like how the pupils were transparent just enough to show the scenery that, that person sees through their own eyes.

3. I have always loved photos that shows a scenery, so i was to submit one, i  would have taken a photo of the ocean when the sun is setting, when the light is highlighting the water. Even though stilled water is just plain and simple, but when the rays of the sun is blended within the color of the water, it makes the photo lively and imaginative.

Touching People

1. I don't particularly like or hate the project. Also,i don't understand the whole concept of the photo essay.

2. Honestly, i would be uncomfortable to be touching strangers just to take a photo for someone i don't know.

3. To take a picture of a group of friends with different ethnicity to show how being diverse doesn't stand in between friendship.

4. In my opinion, the pictures are a little bit unusual and weird, but as i said on question 1, i don't like or hate the photos, therefore i don't mind looking at them either.

40 greatest photos taken

By : Vanderlei Almeida / Getty Images

I chose this photo because this proved the saying, "Dogs are a mans best friend". This photo focused on the holes that are used as graves, which had caught my attention. In my opinion, the reason this was chosen as to be in the top was not because of the picture itself, but the story that its showing us.

I chose this photo because i admire how the young boy was brave enough not to cry on his dad's funeral and had saluted while they had carried his coffin away. The picture had caught my eyes when i saw a little boy saluting with many other guards. I believe this photo was chosen to be in the top 40's because it was very touching.

This was a heartfelt photo at how the young boy had taken the flag in honor of his dad. I believe that the main objective of this photo is the young boy, its focused on his facial expression ,which really shows how hes feeling at that very moment, which had caught my attention. In my opinion, this photo expresses a lot of unsaid feelings, that's why it was chosen to be in the Top 40's.

Avoiding Mergers

The photo isn't well organized and composed. The people in the sides were cut off in the photo.

Framing

The smoke is making a border line to focus on the building thats in-between the smoke. It fits the perfect nicely to go with the story its showing.

Balance

The lighting goes from dark to light. The edges are darkened to complement the main objective of the photo making it well-balanced.

Lines

The building makes Vertical lines. The lines makes the falling man look like he's falling down fast.

The Rule of Thirds

The people in the picture isn't exactly on the middle, giving it a better composition and organization to fit the picture perfectly.

Simplicity

The main focus is the building with smoke. The background is very simple, plain and it doesn't distract it from the main objective of the photo.

Unusual and Interesting Photos

Part 1 :

1. The pictures were indeed unusual and interesting. The photos looked as if they moved and left a shadow behind.

2. There might have been many ways to do the effect. I think he may have moved the camera on the split second that the shutter takes to snap the photo or may have used some graphic effect on the computer.

3. I think the tall buildings we have in downtown austin would be pretty good, maybe at night when the  place looks alive. It might be hard to take the photos if they were taken at night from being too crowded.

Part 2 :

1. I picked this photo because the scenery of the water was very pretty, which had captured my attention at first glance.

2. Photojournalist of the year(smaller markets).

3. 3rd Place .

4. The photographer had timed when the sunset had highlighted the water.

5. It was probably hard picking, but comparing from the others, i would have to say that this photo was the most colorful and had a beautiful scenery that got it chosen to be one of the best.

6. Having an ocean background is kind of common knowing it would be pretty, but how the photographer had added the people carrying the candles/lanterns had made it unique, making the little lights stand out on the darker part of the picture.

1. Just looking at the picture, you can tell that they were suffering, the reason i picked this one was because this photo showed how courageous they were.

2. Domestic News

3. Honorable Mention (HM)

4. How they were huddled up in the foggy cold weather its showing.

5. This did not get placed since it was just an ordinary photo, instead it was called as an "honorable mention" since it showed their bravery.

6. The photographer had to get it on the right time and place, to capture the moment that truly shows the hardship of being a firefighter.

1. I really liked how this photo was very defined and zoomed in.

2. Sports Action.

3. 1st Place .

4. How the photo was taken at the certain angle.

5. In my opinion, this one had the most defined background which had made it hard to choose from the others.

6. The photographer had taken the photo from under.

Part 3 :

1. The connection you have with the pictures your taking, how the light is focused/reflecting on the object and the angle your shooting the photo at.

2.

3.

4. They are about similar, making the photo very clear, closed up, and focused on what's inside of the flower.

5. Poppy- By Georgia O'Keeffe , She likes to take pictures that are focused on something and closed up, just like how i would like to.

Great Black and White Photographers PART 2

Ansel Adams was born on February 20, 1902 in San Francisco, California and died on April 2, 1984.Adams did not get a formal education but rather focused on his photography. He was an American photographer and environmentalist, but was best known for his black and white photographs. Even though the cameras he used are heavy and the films cost more, Adams liked to use large formats because of their high resolution. His first portfolio was produced in 1902 called, "Parmelian Prints Of The High Sierras," using his new style. With the help of sponsorship coming from Albert Bender, his first portfolio was a success, which had made him known. Soon after, he joined a prestigious club with the help of Albert Bender, called Roxburghe, learning about printing techniques, inks, design, and layout which he later had applied in his other projects. In 1933, Adams opened up his own art and photography gallery in San Francisco. Afterwards, in 1983, he created a limited-edition book called "Sierra Nevada: The John Muir Trail". Later on, Ansel had died in the ICU at the age of 83 from a heart attack after being in bed for four weeks after a leg surgery to remove a tumor. In Adams lifetime, he had received various awards coming from different universities and was also elected several times.
