Extra Credit

1. The Man was shoved onto the tracks by an unidentified assailant and got ran over by a New York subway train. The Photographer had his camera with him at the time and was near the man on the tracks.

2. In the little time he had, he took out his camera to try to alert the train's driver by the flash of his camera.

3. No, in my perspective, even if the man was way bigger than me, i would have put in all of my energy into trying to pull him up while shouting for help.

4. No, because as shown on the photo he took, he could have had time to try to pull the man up, and he should have known that the train's driver wouldn't have had enough time to stop the train.

5. I disagree, since it shows how a man died, while also making the photographer of that picture look bad. It is also cruel for the man's family that died to show how devastated he was in his last minute, knowing he was about to be ran over by a train.

6. Even if your a photographer, a life is worth more than a picture. Only take a photo of something bad after it has happened already, knowing that you couldn't have had done anything, but it's morally wrong to take a photo while the bad is taking action into reality while doing nothing helpful.

7. It's different for every situation, but at this one, he should have involved himself in it, knowing a life would be taken away if he had not done so.

8. Again, it depends on the situation that is happening, if its bad enough that someone could get harmed in any way, then they should stop it from happening

9.  That no one was there to know what had really happened.

American Soldier

  • 1.
A.
I believe the most powerful image from the slideshow is:
The reason i believe this is the most powerful image is because the emotion it shows, moreover it's heartfelt. Many others can probably relate to how they felt, in addition, this photo shows their affection to one another as true brothers. Their emotion is pouring out, while the captions lets us know how he truly cares about his friends deeply and his sense of patriotism.

B.
Set #1 At home in Denver - #1 to image #8
Set #2 At Basic Training - #10 to image #30
Set #3 In Iraq - #51 to image #70
Set #4 Back in Denver - #76 to image #83

Set #2 was the most powerful images throughout the slideshow because it shows you the hardship of becoming a soldier. Ian Fisher gave up just as fast as he then afterwards made the decision to finish his training. While in training, it shows how much he misses his home with everyone he loves, but he didn't give up just because of that, he also loves his country enough to stay at training to serve for it.

C.
The pictures shows us a story of when Ian Fisher decided to fight for his country. It starts off with saying goodbyes to the people he loves then off he goes to training. He then faces the hardship of training and had to rethink his decision. Later on the slideshow it shows that Ian is making an effort and doing his best, which lets us know that he stayed with his goal. Not only does the slideshow show us how he tries to accomplish his goal, but his problems that goes with being send off to a faraway area. In the end, everything worked out. Throughout the slideshow, every single image continues the story, one after another.

By showing us that even though he almost gave up because it was hard, he didn't and fought on.

  • 4.
Image #14 :
Ian makes a late night phone call to his parents inside the training camp building to tell them his frustrations so far. He then started rethinking of his choice to be there as he talked to his parents about what to do while no one was around him.

Image #31 :
Ian hugs his father as he comes home from the airport for a short break from training. He greeted everyone that came to the airport while embracing his dad and said, "It felt good to be back home with everyone".

Image #47 :
Ian hugs his close friends as he's about to leave for Iraq tomorrow morning. He talked to them about his plans in his bedroom and told them, "I wouldn't have had come this far if it weren't for you guys".

A.
It really shows the emotion within.

B.
In videos, It's easier to tell a story since it plays by itself till the finish while giving it a background sound to connect with the emotions the story is telling us.

C.
Photo's let you look at the image for however long you want to, by having all the time you need, it lets you see every single detail on the picture.

Fashion Photography Ethics

1. On the computer, they changed the woman's Lip size and made it bigger, made her neck longer, lowered her eyes and eyebrows a bit and made it bigger/longer, changed parts of her hair to make it better, made her shoulders, face shape and skin tone to make her face structure more slender looking.

2. No, because by changing your whole outer appearance to perfection, you won't be yourself anymore.

3. By manipulating a person's appearance , others will look up to them while making their own self esteem lower by not being able to compare themselves to a computer analyzed picture.

4. In my perspective, changing parts of the hair would be alright, but other than that, anything that has to do with changing their own body part to not look like theirs, isn't alright.

5. Fashion Photography is anything about fashion related, while on the other hand, Photojournalism is basically anything related to picture takings or just pictures.

6. A photo is only a duplicate of the reality. A picture can show something to be better and more perfect looking, therefore, in reality, the photo won't always look the same.

Lytro Warm-Up

1. It focuses on the part i click and un-blurrs it.

2. It lets the photographer focus on the part they want on the photo they have taken.

3. Since it's manual, they need to know what Aperture, shutter speed and ISO they'll use specifically on what they plan to take a picture of.

4. In my perspective, yes, since i like how the camera works and the features it includes.

Self Portrait and Portraits Part II

Self Portrait and Portraits Part II:
1. "Use a tripod. Seriously. While it’s possible to get good photos while you’re hanging on to your camera at arms-length, it’s a lot easier if you’ve got the freedom to move around a bit."

2. "Have fun with it. Be sexy. Be yourself. Be awesome. Be different. Be creative. Whatever you do, have fun with it. That’s part of the point, after all."

3. "Use your imagination! A self-portrait can reveal a lot about you, by including props and even other people that are meaningful in your life. If you've never attempted to shoot a self-portrait, expand your creative horizons and give it a try."

  • Environmental Portraits:

I liked how the tree had framed the boy, and the balance of this photo was good. Also, they had used rule of thirds to focus on the boy.

I really liked how they focused on the young girl while blurring out the background. The lighting of the photo highlighted what she was wearing. This picture was very pretty.

  • Self Portraits:

I picked this photo because the background and how the girl was position caught my attention. Her pose and the effects of the background/lighting worked well together. The overall photo was very pretty.

I chose this because the photo was sharp and focused. The girls face was closed up, therefore showing the features of her face, which looked flawless.

  • Casual Portraits:

The photo was very simple but is pretty. I liked how the background was just a simple color, therefore making the center of attention to the girl.

I liked how the little boy was focused in, making the background blurry. Also, his facial expression was adorable, which had caught my attention.

In the next assignment, Lizette Ramirez will be the one to take my portrait. The place it'll take place in has to have good lighting, therefore it'll be somewhere outside. To make it successful, it has to follow the basic rules of photography.

Aperture, Shutter Speed, ISO

  • APERTURE:

F2.8

F16

1.  Pupil
2.  The smaller the aperture f-number, the higher the aperture depth of field.
3. It is the part of the picture that looks sharp.

  • SHUTTER SPEED:
Fast Shutter Speed

Slow Shutter Speed

1.
a. Fast Shutter Speed
b. Fast Shutter Speed
c. Slow Shutter Speed
d. Slow Shutter Speed
e. Slow Shutter Speed
f. Fast Shutter Speed

a. Slow Shutter Speed
b. Medium
c. Slow
d. Slow
e. Slow
f. Fast

  • ISO:

2.
Auto Mode: Shutter Speed and Aperture are done by the camera.
Aperture Priority Mode: You manually set the aperture mode by yourself, but the camera sets the shutter speed.
Manual Mode: You decide and set both the aperture and shutter speed.

ISO 200

ISO 3200

1. Freezes the motion of the picture.
2.  When there is plenty of light, use the lowest ISO to retain the most detail and have the highest image quality.
3.  When there is not enough light, increase the ISO to be able to freeze the motion of the photo.

F2.8 - 1/125
F4 - 1/125
F5.6 - 1/60
F8 - 1/60
F11 - 1/60
F16 - 1/30
F22 - 1/8

F2.8 : No visible background and it's quite blurry, the couple is the only visible thing on the picture.
F4 : The background is blurry and the couple looks pixelated a bit.
F5.6 : The background shows buildings, but is still blurry and the couple is clear and visible on the photo.
F8 : The background shows more object but is still blurry, the couple is focused correctly but the lighting is a bit dark.
F11 : The background became more visible but is still a bit blurry, the lighting became darker.
F16: The background is more defined but is still blurry and the lighting is a tad dark.
F22 : The background shows visible objective but the overall photo is blurry.

In the slow shutter speed, the people will become blurry if it isn't held steadily.
Photographers usually use tripods, therefore they don't have to hold the camera and it won't become blurry.
The slowest shutter speed for hand-held would be 1/4 sec.
